Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods

Once again, Phil Mickelson is on the verge of taking the #1 spot in the world away from Tiger Woods this afternoon in the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Mickelson is currently tied for sixth entering the final round...Mickelson will take the #1 spot over with a win; a second-place finish if Tiger Woods is outside the top-three; a third-place finish with Tiger outside the top-nine; or a fourth-place finish with Tiger outside the top-24 and Steve Stricker not finishing 1st.

Tiger Woods has been #1 in the world for over 5 years straight and although Phil Mickelson has had many opportunities this year already to take over the prized #1, it looks as though this is his best shot ever. However, we all know how Phil falls apart when the pressure of beating Tiger is on the line. Can he do it? I don’t think he can, but it will certainly be interesting to see how the #1 and #2 golfers in the world (and golf's biggest rivals) play today for that #1 spot.
