Yankees vs. Red Sox. Still a Rivalry?

Although the Boston Red Sox avoided a 3 game sweep this past weekend at home by their hated rival, the New York Yankees, the Yankees literally put the “smack down” on the Sox Friday and again Saturday.  One of the things that make rivalries so much fun to watch is no matter how good or bad the other team is, it’s always a classic to see those teams meet up...but not so much with the Red Sox and Yankees this weekend.

The Yankees won game one 10 – 3...then they won game two 14 – 3.  I mean, seriously, what is that???  I was hoping to see some good 'ol baseball, but instead I saw a major league team (Yankees) playing what looked to be AAA team, the Salem Red Sox.

Is this because baseball has so many regular season games that teams just seem not to care as much as they would if there were only 81 games?  Perhaps, but that’s another topic and also no excuse for not caring and giving it your all.  It certainly didn’t seem to matter to the Yankees as they obliterated the Red Sox.  The Yankees were clearly the better team, and the Red Sox are playing some pitiful baseball right now.  Of course, some might argue that’s simply because the Yankees are just a much more talented team.  No matter how you look at it, I just wish the games would have been a little more fun to watch!

Is this still the biggest rivalry in baseball?  I believe so, but for the love of the game and this legendary rivalry, I hope Boston is more competitive when they travel to New York for a 2 game series starting May 17th.

I was expecting closer games, but what can you do? It's still a rivalry. Hell, it's been 2362 days since UM last beat OSU in football, and BOTH SIDES still get fired up for THAT game!! lol btw - Michigan SUCKS!!!!
